About CVCA HIE:
The Central Valley California Health Information Exchange (CVCA HIE) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Health Information Exchange (HIE), expanding throughout California’s Central Valley region, with its roots in California’s Kern County. Initially formed as EKCITA (East Kern County Integrated Technology Association) via a federal research initiative and through a grassroots community effort in 2006, under the management of Believe Health, LLC, EKCITA became CVCA HIE in October, 2012. CVCA continues to deliver secure and appropriate sharing of electronic health files and clinical data for improving patient care, health entity analysis, public health and research. CVCA’s goal is to nurture and improve upon the implementation of health information technology resources to improve quality, efficiency and coordination of patient care as well as support the development of clinical research and population health improvement tools throughout the nine counties of California’s Central Valley.
CVCA was one of the first, if not the first, HIE west of the Mississippi to exchange live patient data in 2008 according to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC). At the request of ONC, CVCA presented example case studies at the 2010 and 2012 HIMSS annual conferences on HIE interoperability leveraging NwHIN technology standards and continues to lead California in HIT development and innovation. CVCA has been a pioneer in the implementation and use of CCD/CCR/CDA clinical summary exchange standards, NwHIN Exchange and NwHIN DIRECT implementation and innovation and adaptable governance and privacy standards in the HIE marketplace.
CVCA is known for its strengths in supporting the needs of rural and traditionally underserved geographies, with analytical capabilities key for population health improvement on an ongoing basis. With the addition of major population centers such as Fresno and Modesto, as well as its sophisticated suite of services included clinical messaging and pro-active alert systems, CVCA provides leading edge HIT capabilities to its exchange partner organizations unsurpassed in California.
