Background

Mission

To provide a secure patient centered approach to integrated health information and technology exchange and analyze data for public health needs, education and research.

Value Proposition

EKCITA’s value proposition is unique compared to the profit companies that assess the feasibility of HIE implementation and/or implement HIE and PHR systems. EKCITA recognizes that technology is no longer the barrier to the effective implementation of health information technology. Rather, it is “culture” and fear that create the barriers to implementation. Our team, comprised of a practicing physician, an innovative health and administrative systems analytical researcher, a medical administrator, and an accomplished HIE technology professional, have worked through these issues together, resulting in the successful implementation of EHRs, HIE, and PHRs in a rural region. Our different backgrounds and experiences come together in demonstrated synchrony in order to support the CEOs, CMOs, and CIOs in the implementation of technology within relatively new and unchartered territories.

Successes & Recognition
Invited to demonstrate NHIN gateway "Coordinating Care Across California" at HIMSS 2010

"One of the first, if not the first, operational HIEs west of the Mississippi River"

One of the first HIOs to receive 501(c)(3) determination by the IRS

Our team has been nationally recognized through invited presentations to CalRHIO, NIH, AHRQ, and NRHA; and have had a peer-reviewed article published through the Journal of Health Information Management in April 2008 for our efforts. We have “in the trenches” experiences from concept to implementation.
